Protesters Defy Tinubu’s Plea, Continue Protests In Lagos: “Tinubu Didn’t Address Our Demands
A small group of #EndBadGovernance protesters gathered at Gani Fawehinmi Park on Sunday morning, chanting solidarity songs shortly after President Bola Tinubu’s national address. This is according to Vanguard Newspaper.
The protesters criticized the President for not addressing their core issues, despite mentioning his administration’s efforts. Police and security agencies were present at the park, where they restricted the protesters to the designated area. The demonstrators complied without resistance.
In his earlier broadcast, Tinubu urged the youths to suspend the protests and engage in dialogue. He assured them that his administration remains committed to good governance despite Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.
Tinubu defended the removal of the petrol subsidy as a painful but necessary step for economic reform.
The protesters have demanded the return of petrol subsidies, as well as the restoration of the previous foreign exchange regime. They also called for measures to address food shortages, unemployment, and wasteful spending by officials.
