Peter Obi Responds To Tinubu’s Address On Protest, Says He Was Initially Accused Of Sponsoring It
Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has responded to President Bola Tinubu’s recent address to the nation concerning the ongoing protests. Posting on his verified Twitter account, Obi shared his thoughts and reservations about the President’s speech, emphasizing the need for empathy and timely communication from leadership.
“Having led the call for the President to address the nation and respond to the demands of the people, and having listened to the belated speech, I needed to delay my response to see if my understanding of the address was aligned with others. I hesitated to respond immediately, as I felt it could have been perceived as another attempt by Peter Obi to sway public opinion, especially since I was initially accused of sponsoring the protest,” Obi began.
He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for finally addressing the nation, acknowledging that the delay may have contributed to the unnecessary loss of innocent lives, including security personnel. “However, I must begin by thanking the President for finally addressing the people, albeit belatedly, which might have prevented the unnecessary loss of innocent lives, including those of our security agents,” Obi stated.
Obi went on to critique aspects of the President’s address, particularly the lack of empathy shown towards those injured, arrested, and detained due to what he described as the overzealous and unprofessional conduct of some security operatives. “While I had hoped that, in consoling the families of those who lost their loved ones in the protest, he would also show some empathy towards those who were injured, arrested, and detained due to the overzealous and unprofessional conduct of some security operatives,” he noted.
Obi’s response highlights his ongoing commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of all Nigerians, particularly those affected by the recent protests. His remarks suggest a call for greater sensitivity and accountability from the government in handling civil unrest and the actions of security forces.
The former Anambra State governor’s measured response aims to balance gratitude for the President’s eventual communication with a constructive critique of the administration’s handling of the protests and the need for more comprehensive empathy and reform…..See_More
