Nigerian Woman Narrates How A Neighbour Died After Her Husband Refused To Take Her To Hospital

A heartbreaking story has emerged from a Lagos neighborhood, where a woman and her newborn tragically died following complications from a week-long labour.

The incident was shared by a neighbor, Jane Arike Francis, who took to Facebook on Sunday, December 1, to express her grief and frustration over what she described as an “avoidable death.”

According to Jane, the woman, a mother of two, was initially advised by a midwife to undergo a Caesarean section after it became evident that she could not deliver naturally. However, her husband dismissed the advice, insisting on a home delivery as she had successfully delivered her previous children without medical intervention.

For seven agonizing days, the woman endured labour pains. It was only on Wednesday, after her condition worsened, that she was finally rushed to the hospital. While the C-section was performed, the delay proved fatal for the baby, who was stillborn. Tragically, the mother passed away days later due to complications.

“This could have been prevented,” Jane wrote in her emotional post.

“I feel so traumatized by the loss of a neighbor and her child because this was entirely avoidable.”

The story has sparked conversations online about the importance of following medical advice during childbirth and the dangers of relying solely on traditional methods when complications arise.
Local health authorities have yet to comment on the incident, but the tragedy underscores the critical need for increased awareness and access to maternal healthcare in Nigeria……..See More
