Ndume: The Way Things Are, It’s As If Tinubu Has Resolved That He’ll Only Be 1 Term President—Lukman
In a recent statement, Salihu Lukman, former National Vice Chairman North-West of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticized the recent removal of Senator Ali Ndume as Chief Whip of the Senate and his expulsion from the party, as reported by DAILY POST.
Lukman suggests these actions indicate President Bola Tinubu’s intention to limit himself to a single term in office.
In a statement titled “Fanatical Mindset” issued on Thursday, Lukman lamented what he perceives as a crackdown on free speech reminiscent of past authoritarian regimes.
He condemned the APC leadership for what he sees as unconstitutional actions, stating that no provision in the APC Constitution grants the authority to unilaterally remove a National Assembly principal officer.
The removal of Senator Ndume from his position as Chief Whip of the Senate followed allegations of outspoken criticism against President Tinubu.
The directive, issued by APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and National Secretary Senator Basiru Ajibola, has raised controversy within the party and brought debates about political freedom and democratic values in Nigeria.
Lukman expressed concern over worsening living conditions under Tinubu’s administration and accused the government of growing intolerance towards criticism.
He argued that a democracy unable to tolerate opposition and fair hearings is no democracy at all, linking the current political climate to a form of dictatorship.
He called on Nigerians to unite against what he described as the self-destructive path of the APC leadership and Tinubu’s government.
“The way things are, it is almost as if President Asiwaju Tinubu has resolved that he will only be a one term President. Under his watch, the living conditions of Nigerians is continuously getting worse. Instead of making effort to develop clear plans to address the situation, the government is becoming more intolerant to criticism.“
“So long as APC, its leadership and Asiwaju Tinubu’s government have taken the self-destructive path, which is equivalent to a declaration of working end their tenure in 2027, patriotic Nigerians must help them to ensure their defeat in 2027!” he said…..See_More
