I’m A Traditional Yoruba Boy, I Did My ‘Dobale’ —Tinubu Says He Didn’t Fall At Eagle Square
According to Daily Trust, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has clarified the air about the widely reported incident concerning him at the Eagle Square on Wednesday during an event to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebration.
Media reports had indicated that the President missed his step, tripped, and fell, hitting his face on the parade vehicle, while he was trying to board it.
The incident attracted a flurry of reactions from Nigerians, especially on social media, even as the video of the incident quickly went viral.
But the President has now come out to set the records, saying he did not fall as widely reported but was doing his “dobale” as a traditional Yoruba “boy,” adding that it was a day to celebrate democracy with a “dobale.”
Dobale is the act of greeting in Yoruba culture where a younger male prostrates to greet his elders as a mark of respect and reverence.
He gave the explanation of the incident while speaking during a dinner. He further described what happened as a “Swagger,” adding that social media users were confused about it, not knowing what it was all about.
He said:
