Hardship: It Was A Difficult Decision, But We Had No Choice But To Sell Our baby–Suspect
According to the report from the Vanguard, the father of one, a labourer identified as Uchenna Eziekwe, and his wife, Chineye, were arrested while making enquiry on how to sell their baby boy at the Isolo General Hospital in Lagos State.
According to the report, Uchenna Eziekwe described the heartbreaking decision to sell his child due to financial hardship. He explained that he saw no alternative, as he believed it would be better for the child to be cared for by someone with the means to provide for him than to face starvation.
He shared that he initially proposed the idea and managed to convince his spouse to agree to it.
He attributed this difficult choice to his dire financial situation, citing their own irregular income as a day laborer and his wife’s unemployment.
He said, “It was a difficult decision, but we had no choice but to sell our baby. We felt it would be better to sell him to someone who can take care of him than to allow him to die of hunger. I muted the idea and convinced my wife. We had to do it because of hardship. I am a labourer, I go to construction sites to look for work while my wife does nothing.
