Gen. Remy Ikehire: Igbos Were Given A Quit Notice To Leave The North In 2017
A Member of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Major General Collins Remy Ihekire has accused the previous Nigerian governments, particularly the Buhari administration, for exacerbating ethnic and religious tensions to unprecedented levels in the country. He recalled the 2017 quit notice issued to the Igbos in the North, emphasizing that such divisive actions are unsustainable for a unified nation.
He argued that the constant displacement and marginalization faced by ethnic groups undermine the notion of a single and cohesive country. He advocated for ethnic nationalities to be allowed to exist within their own zones, regions, or states, thereby preserving their identities and cultures.
He said in an interview with The Sun, ”The successive governments in Nigeria, particularly the Buhari government, heightened ethnicity and religion to a height that was never known in Nigeria. Look at how the Igbo are hounded everywhere in Lagos. The Igbos were given a quit notice to leave the North in 2017.
We cannot continue like this when we claim to be one country. Every day you are being chased away from where you are. So, ethnic nationalities should be captured to be in their own zone or regions or state or whatever we want it to be.
