Over the years, Nigeria has produced great footballers across each state, however we tend to give majority of credit to Lagos State. The best-known footballers in Nigeria might have started there careers in Lagos but there is a place they call home. That’s the place they hail from.

Today, we will be taking a look at famous Nigerian footballers from different states.To pick these footballers, we looked at their biographies, Google Trends , and used his own expertise. The list was chosen based on the states they hail from.

To make things more interesting, the list consist of past, present stars. Without further ado, let’s get started.

1. Akwa Ibom State- Etim Esin

Etim Esin John is a retired Nigerian international footballer.

He has represented Nigeria at the 1987 FIFA World Youth Championship and several matches. He was born on the 5th of October 1966 in Oron, Akwa Ibom State.

2. Anambra State- Mikel Obi

Mikel Obi was born on 22ndApril 1987 in Jos, Plateau State in the northern part of Nigeria. Mikel Obi is the son of Michael Obi, who runs an inter-state transport company in Jos, the capital of Plateau State in the northern part of Nigeria.

Mikel Obi is originally from Anambra State in the south eastern part of Nigeria but grew up in Jos.

3. Bayelsa State- Samson Siasia

Samson Siasia was born on August 14th, 1967 in Lagos, Nigeria. However, his father is from Odoni Village in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

 

During his playing days, Siasia was a smart and fast striker. He was once the head coach of the Super Eagles.

In May 2018, He was honored by Bayelsa State Governor, Governor, Seriake Dickson.

4. Edo State- Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen was born on the 29th of December 1998 in Lagos. He is however originally from Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State in Nigeria. Osimhen currently plays for Napoli in the Serie A.

5. Rivers State- Taribo West

Taribo west was born on the 26th of March 1974 in Port Harcourt. At Port Harcourt be began is footballing career with Obanta United before becoming a star. Today, he is a pastor.

6. Imo State- Kelechi Ihenacho

Kelechi Ihenacho was born on 3 October 1996 in the town of Obogwe, Imo State. In 2013, Kelechi Ihenacho was the hottest teenage footballer in the world after being voted as the Adidas Golden Ball Award winner at the 2013 FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

Kelechi Ihenacho currently plays as a striker for Premier League club Leicester City.

7. Abia State- Kanu Nwankwo

Nigeria’s living legend, Kanu Nwankwo was born on the 1st of August, 1976 in Owerri,Imo State, Nigeria. He is however originally from Arochukwu in Abia State.

8. Delta State- Augustine Azuka “Jay-Jay” Okocha

When it comes to football, Jay-Jay Okocha is a household name. Okocha was born on the 14th day of August 1973 in Enugu State, Nigeria.

However is parents, Mr and Mrs Azuka Okoch hails from Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, Nigeria.

Okocha is regarded as a legend in Delta State. He even has a stadium in Ogwashi-Uku, Anioma, Nigeria named after after him.The stadium is the the home stadium of Delta Force F.C………..See More
