The Suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, Appears at EFCC Headquarters for Questioning Regarding Alleged N585 Million Fraud in Ministry

Betta Edu arrived at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Headquarters on the morning of January 9 for interrogation concerning the alleged misappropriation of N585 million from the ministry. President Bola Tinubu suspended her on Monday, January 8, following accusations of diverting humanitarian funds into a private account. These funds were intended for grants targeting vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Cross River, and Ogun states.

Edu’s suspension marks the first instance of a minister being removed from office since the swearing-in of members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in August last year.
